Properties with Purpose

Happy Month Of June! Time is flying by at warp speed, folks! Can you believe we're already halfway through 2024? It feels like we were just toasting in the new year and ringing in 2024 yesterday! This rapid passage of time is a powerful reminder: every moment is precious, and we can't afford to take a single day for granted. Let's make the most of the remaining months, seizing opportunities, creating memories, and pursuing our dreams with renewed vigor. After all, time is our most valuable and irreplaceable resource – let's invest it wisely and live each day to its fullest!

This month's message is focusing on Men's mental health awareness month . I wanted to talk about mental health and the power of plants for mental health.

The Healing Power of Green

Plants and fungi have been utilized for medicinal purposes throughout human history, offering a vast array of therapeutic benefits. Many common plants and mushrooms contain compounds that can help treat various ailments and promote overall health. For example, chamomile is known for its calming properties, while the Reishi mushroom is prized for its immune-boosting and stress-reducing effects. Echinacea, a flowering plant, is often used to combat colds, while the Lion's Mane mushroom is being studied for its potential to support cognitive function. Ginger, a plant root, has anti-inflammatory properties, and the Chaga mushroom is rich in antioxidants. Other notable examples include garlic for its antibacterial properties, aloe vera for skin conditions, and the turkey tail mushroom for its potential in supporting cancer treatments. The use of plants and mushrooms in medicine continues to be an important field of study, with researchers constantly discovering new potential applications for both traditional and lesser-known species in the plant and fungi kingdoms.

As well as ingesting plants recent studies have shown that interacting with plants can also significantly improve mental well-being:

  1. Reduced stress and anxiety

  2. Improved mood and self-esteem

  3. Enhanced concentration and productivity

  4. Better sleep quality

Whether it's tending to a garden,  simply spending time in nature or ingesting plants and mushrooms, the positive impact on our mental health is profound and far-reaching.

Men's Mental Health: Breaking the Stigma

This month, we encourage men to embrace the therapeutic benefits of plants. Gardening and plant care can be powerful tools for:

  • Mindfulness and stress relief

  • Building patience and nurturing skills

  • Creating a sense of accomplishment

  • Connecting with nature and finding peace

Remember, seeking help and prioritizing mental health is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Juneteenth: Celebrating Freedom and Growth

As we tend to our mental gardens, let's also commemorate Juneteenth . This important day celebrates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and reminds us of the ongoing journey towards equality and justice. Like a seed breaking through soil, Juneteenth represents resilience, hope, and the power of growth against all odd.

Remember, just as plants need care and attention to thrive, so does our mental health. This June, let's cultivate growth, both in our gardens and in our minds.

Wishing you a month of healing and growth.
