Properties with Purpose

May is a beautiful month filled with warmer days, blooming flowers, and a renewed sense of hope. As spring reaches its peak, many of us feel energized by the sunshine, fresh air, and opportunities to spend time with family and friends.
May is also a meaningful month for two important reasons: it is Mental Health Awareness Month and a time to celebrate Mother’s Day. Both remind us of the importance of care, compassion, and the support systems that help individuals and families thrive.
At Help Inn Folk, we understand that healing begins with stability. Safe housing, mental health support, and a caring community can make all the difference in helping people rebuild their lives.
Honoring Mothers on Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is an opportunity to recognize the love, sacrifice, and resilience of mothers and caregivers everywhere.
Mothers often carry tremendous responsibility, especially when facing financial hardship, housing instability, or the challenge of raising children on their own. Their strength and determination are a powerful reminder of what love looks like in action.
This month, we celebrate all mothers — biological mothers, grandmothers, foster mothers, and maternal figures — who continue to nurture, protect, and inspire those around them.

Mothers and Children Facing Housing Instability
Homelessness affects thousands of families across the United States, and many are led by single mothers doing their best to provide for their children.
According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, families with children make up a significant portion of the homeless population, and many of these households are headed by women. National Alliance to End Homelessness
In Georgia, rising housing costs and economic pressures continue to put many mothers and children at risk of losing stable housing. A temporary setback such as job loss, illness, or domestic violence can quickly create a housing crisis.
With the right support, however, families can regain stability and move forward with confidence and hope.

Mental Health Matters
Mental health affects how we think, feel, and respond to life’s challenges. Yet for many people, especially within African communities, mental health is still surrounded by stigma and misunderstanding.
In many African cultures, emotional struggles are often dismissed or kept private. Some people may fear being judged or misunderstood if they speak openly about anxiety, depression, or trauma. As a result, many suffer in silence.
The truth is that mental health challenges are common, and seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
At Help Inn Folk, we believe everyone deserves access to compassionate care and the support they need to heal and thrive.

Partnership and Community Support
We are grateful to partner with organizations that help provide mental health services for our residents. These partnerships ensure that individuals not only have a safe place to live, but also access to the counseling, resources, and encouragement needed to rebuild their lives.
When people receive support for both their housing and mental health needs, lasting transformation becomes possible.
Thank You to Gwinnett Reentry Alliance
This month, we would like to thank the Gwinnett Reentry Alliance for the invitation to their recent event.
Guest speaker Elijah Hunt delivered a powerful and insightful presentation on the challenges of reentry and the support needed for justice-involved individuals to successfully reintegrate into society.
Access to resources such as housing, employment, and healthcare is critical for individuals returning from incarceration. These supports significantly reduce the risk of recidivism and help people rebuild their lives with dignity.
These collaborations demonstrate that with the right assistance and encouragement, people can truly turn their lives around. Help Inn Folk remains committed to serving all members of the community who are ready to create positive change.
Enjoying the Season
May is also a wonderful time to get outdoors and enjoy community events, festivals, and gatherings.
Whether you're attending a local concert, visiting a park, or spending time with loved ones, here are a few simple tips to make the most of the season:
Stay hydrated and bring plenty of water.
Wear a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun.
Carry a portable phone charger.
Dress comfortably.
Most importantly, take time to relax and enjoy yourself.
Closing Reflections
This May, we celebrate the strength of mothers, the importance of mental health, and the power of community.
To every mother working tirelessly to care for her family, and to every individual taking steps toward healing and stability, we see you and we honor your resilience.
Help Inn Folk wishes all mothers and caregivers a joyful and peaceful Mother’s Day.
May this month bring hope, healing, and renewed strength to you and your loved ones.
