A Month to Celebrate Fatherhood, Small Joys & Fresh Starts

June is here — the gateway to summer, a season of new energy, longer days, and the opportunity to pause and reflect. At Help Inn Folk, we view this month not only as a time for transition but as a chance to recognize the many moments — big and small — that deserve celebration.

From honoring fathers to embracing healing, and even finding joy in a donut or a picnic, June reminds us that life is worth celebrating in all its forms.

Yes, There’s a Holiday for That — And It Matters

June is packed with thoughtful and lighthearted observances that invite us to slow down and appreciate the present. Here’s a closer look at a few:

  • June 1 – Say Something Nice Day A simple reminder to uplift those around us. Words have power, especially in a world where many are struggling silently. A kind word can shift someone’s entire day.

  • June 7 – National Donut Day Created during World War I to honor women who served donuts to soldiers, it’s now a light-hearted excuse to indulge in a sweet treat — and maybe share one with someone else.

  • June 8 – National Best Friends Day Friendship is a source of strength, especially for those rebuilding their lives. Take a moment to call, text, or reconnect with someone who has walked with you.

  • June 18 – International Picnic Day A celebration of nature and community. It doesn’t take much — just a blanket, fresh air, and good company — to remind ourselves of life’s simple pleasures.

  • June 21 – First Day of Summer & National Selfie Day The season of sunlight begins — a great time to step outside, reflect, and maybe even smile for a photo. Sometimes we need to see ourselves in a new light.

  • June 27 – PTSD Awareness Day Mental health challenges, especially for justice-involved individuals, are real and often untreated. This day brings awareness to those coping with trauma and reminds us all to lead with empathy.

At Help Inn Folk, we don’t celebrate for the sake of it. We celebrate because every milestone, every small win, and every chance to feel joy is worth it.

Housing with Dignity for Justice-Involved Individuals

Our work continues to focus on providing stable, supportive housing for justice-involved men and women — individuals who are often released back into society with little more than hope and a record.

We provide more than just housing. We provide structure, support, and the belief that people are capable of growth, healing, and transformation.

When people have a safe place to live, a supportive community, and access to resources — they change. And change lasts.

This month, we encourage you to reflect, reconnect, and celebrate. Not because everything is perfect — but because even in imperfection, life still offers us moments of meaning.

Honor your growth. Speak kindly. Enjoy a donut. Call a friend. Take a walk. Breathe.

And remember: You deserve to be seen, supported, and celebrated.
